In a time when nothing is more certain than change, the commitment of two people to one another has become difficult and rare. Yet, by its scarcity, the beauty and value of this exchange have only been enhanced.
~Robert Sexton~
Marriage is truly a beautiful thing. Easy? Definitely not. Fun? Not always, but often. Worth it? Every minute! However, in today's culture marriage has gotten a bad rap. Married couples in movies and on television are often depicted as miserable and mutually disrespectful. In break rooms across the world one can find co-workers engaging in ritual "spouse bashing." And more and more people have simply stopped believing that marriage is of any value at all.
Being a newlywed myself, I've honestly been a little discouraged by the negative connotation marriage is receiving. Until I found a company that's doing something about it!
That company is From*me Tees! You can get to their website by clicking on that link, or the button in my sidebar. Below is a snippet from the "About Us" section of their website.
"From*me Tees was started by a married couple who knows what it is to work through hard stuff and yet stay together and stay committed through it all. One of the great and wonderful mysteries of life is that loving each other in action--what we do and say--produces romance. Everything in our culture today teaches the opposite, that romance turns into love, but nothing could be further from the truth. Love is a choice and we decide how we're going to treat each other in the good and in the not-so-good times. What a hope-giving reality that a strong relationship can be built, simply by changing how we interact with our spouse.
Marriage was created to be a blessing and a little kindness and respect goes a long way. Accept the fact that your spouse isn't perfect and then start taking notice of all the good things they bring to the table! Pretty soon you can train your mind to be grateful for who they are as opposed to feeling disappointed about who they are not. When you allow yourself to believe that your spouse rocks, you will free yourself from the downward spiral of self-pity, disappointment, and even dispair. The key is to change yourself! And you'll be surprised at the positive affect it has on the one you choose to love...and you!" source
I was so excited and inspired when I found their website (thank you An Island Life) and read their mission statement! This is exactly what I've been looking for and trying to create in my marriage! Marriage should be fun and happy and wonderful, and we should look at it in a positive light! (That being said, I am fully aware and willing to put in the work and commitment it takes to create a lasting marriage, but that doesn't have to be a drudge or a chore, either!) And I decided that I am going to join them in putting marriage in a positive light! I want my husband to feel loved and respected by me, and I want to encourage others in this as well!
Thus ~ "my husband rocks" Fridays ~ is born!
Every Friday, I will be posting a story, or photo, or quote about how and why my husband rocks! And I invite you to do the same!
"No husband is perfect and it doesn’t really matter. What matters is how I set myself up to think about him. If I focus on his failures, his annoyances, or ways in which I’ve felt hurt by him, then I will interact with him as a hurt and frustrated and disappointed wife. That makes for miserable living for me and my husband and those around us. But if I focus on his strengths, his potential, and the ways in which I feel blessed by him, then I will interact with him as a forgiving, blessed, and contented wife. And there’s no greater need a man has than to feel respected by his wife. If he feels like all he does is hurt, disappoint, and frustrate, then the same atmosphere and the same actions will be perpetuated. But if he feels that his wife can be happy and responsive regardless of his shortcomings, he feels respected and empowered. Then a positive atmosphere is perpetuated and actions, once destructive, can improve in an environment that is rich for
cultivation and growth into deepened respect and intimacy." (from the From*me Tees Mission Reflection)

ReplyDeleteHey, just thought I'd let you know that I linked to this post on my blog... I really think it's a great idea. KUDOS!
ReplyDeleteHi Katy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming to my porch party! I had so much fun!!
I am signing up for you My Husband Rocks Fridays! I think it's a great idea. My husband Wes is fabulous and treats me like a queen. I would love to honor him in this way, so count me in. Wes and I will be married 30 yrs on Sunday so this is perfect timing!
Hugs, Sherry
Dear Katy,
ReplyDeleteI am so deeply sorry about your sweet Drea. I know your heart is breaking over her. When our beloved Brandy died at 21 yrs old (Sheltie) we had her cremated. When her ashes were returned there was a poem with her about the Rainbow Bridge in Heaven. That she would be waiting to meet us there someday and that until then she would be frolicking and playing. I know there is nothing in the Bible about animals having souls but I believe all life goes back to the Father and if He feels seeing them would delight our spirit, He will let us see them and be with them there. He knows the desires of our hearts. Just a thought.
Big Hugs, Sherry
Thank you so much for stopping by my blog. I figured out that you and Melissa knew eachother. So fun how these little blog chains get started!
ReplyDeleteI loved this post. Kind of wish my ex-husband was as into saving a marriage as I was :)! (I have to joke about it from time to time...). I will file it all away and join one day when I find that person as committed to forever and ever as I am!
Hi! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog! I love these tee shirts, how cool!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new marriage! I love your positive outlook and am sure you two will have a lifetime of happiness!
Hugs,
Amy

Barb
Hi Katy!
ReplyDeleteOOPS! We will be married 29 yrs tomorrow, not 30! Either I can't subtract or I think it's 2009! See what happens as we mature? You don't have to worry about that for a long long time!!
Hugs, Sherry
What a sweet idea!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea! Thanks so much for sharing this link. Have a wonderful weekend! xoxo ~ Joy
ReplyDeleteI am DEFINATELY buying a "My Husband Rocks" t-shirt...and a "My Wife Rocks" for him too!
ReplyDelete:-)
Katy Lin, this is a great idea! Thank you for offering us an opportunity to encourage our husbands! I'll be looking forward to Friday!
ReplyDeleteSarah
Well, Amen, Miss Katy Lin!
ReplyDeleteYou sound like a very wise young woman -- much like me at your age! Ha! Ha! Just kidding!
Seriously, your husband is certainly blessed to have such a wife, as you, who adores him and takes marriage seriously.
My husband and I married when I was 17. Not because we had to, we waited until we were married (you know what I mean?) We married because we loved each other and were ready to begin our lives together. Everyone we knew (and even alot that we didn't know!!) tried to talk us out of it and said the meanest things. I'm happy to say that this November, we'll celebrate our 21st anniversary!
You both keep loving each other and ignoring those meanies! I have much faith in marriage, in family, and most importantly, in our Lord. He will bless you and your marriage, I'm certain. You are definitely on the right path!
Many Blessings,
Julie
What a great idea! I'm not married, but I sent the link to my married friends!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog; yes, that is the Lorax!
I do adore my husband, but find it more fun to make fun of him from time to time. Makes for better blogs!

Katy Lin - Thanks for stopping by my blog. What a gift to link over to yours. In Prov. 31 it asks, "who can find a virtuous and CAPABLE wife?" Sounds like your husband found a great treasure. I am blown away by your wisdom and fresh vision for marriage...and so young.
ReplyDeleteYou will be blessed - I am. God's way seems foolish to the world's way. I'll be married 11yrs in Aug, have two precious girls and one on the way. I can't imagine my life with out my husband. God knew what He was doing when He introduced me to Ryan. Dream big with your dude! It is so fun to see your goals and dreams come to pass.
Go with God!

I just found your blog through Schotzy's blog. What a great idea this is!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I have been married for 22 years last month - and very happily so! He is such a blessing to me.
It's Monday, so I won't be able to post until Friday, but I've already put your button on my blog. Thanks for a great idea!
~Susan
I am joining in this week of the Fourth of July! Happy holiday!
ReplyDeleteSarah Mae sent me here, and I'm glad she did. I'll have to move my recipe reviews to another day, but I haven't been following my own schedule lately anyways. I may be sans computer tomorrow, so I'll try to get one up today, if not, I'll start next week for sure.
ReplyDeleteWe've been married just shy of 6 years, and I am still completely head-over-heels for him. I know he's not perfect, but neither am I. He is, however, perfect for me.
Thanks for doing this!
I am always so happy to link to this post! Thanks so much for this idea!!
ReplyDeleteI've done my post!! But I'm an old-lady blogger, and rather inept at the techie stuff. I'm trying to do all the linking stuff, but I can't even get the button to show in my sidebar :( My hubby will have to do that for me too!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea!!
ReplyDeleteI added your button, and made a post, now how do I go to mr.linky's? Help!
I posted! This is a great idea!
ReplyDeletethis is such a lovely idea. I love to praise my hubby!
ReplyDeleteJust discovered this. Really cool! After (nearly) 19 years of marriage I think my husband still rocks. No, just kidding! I know he rocks. A 12-year infertility journey bonded us more than we could have ever imagined. That together with our beautiful IVF little boy is what makes our marriage rock.
ReplyDeletejust started this today! love love love it, because i obviously think my husband is awesome :)
ReplyDeleteI am starting this today, thank you! I'm not sure how to get added, but I'm linking to you, and I saw my post added below the comments, so. . .I don't know how this works.

This is beautiful! It's so nice to see so many wives on the same page about marriage and husbands! It is a good thing! I love being married, I love my hubby and I love this idea! I'm posting mine right now!! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I love it, and can't wait to participate this week.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,

Just wanted to say this is a great idea. I can't wait to participate :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea! This goes along VERY well with a bible study that I am participating in. I look forward to participating this upcoming Friday!
ReplyDeleteWonderful idea! I can never figure out why getting married gives anyone the right to be mean-spirited. "You always hurt the ones you love," as the song goes. Baloney. I'm not talking the occasional argument. I'm talking about couples who can't seem to talk to each other without being snide. I see it all the time and it makes me nuts. Mike and I will celebrate our 28th anniversary in November. We dated 9 years prior to that, I can tell you that it was back in high school that I made it clear we don't tease in a mean way. He drives me nuts at time, and I'm sure I drive him nuts more often. But I think the secret of us lasting this long (37 years!) is that we are NICE to each other. Honestly, what's so hard about that?
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea, I just had to participate! I just figured out how to post the link after I had already posted on mine, so next week I will do it right (still learning)LOL, but here is the link for this time!
ReplyDeleteThanks for creating this!

Count me in Katy! I can't wait until next Friday. I just started the Love Dare book from the movie Fireproof. I can't wait to see when and how the Lord reveals to me the ways in which my husband rocks that I have been too blinded by my own selfishness to see lately.
ReplyDeleteBless you for doing this!
Stef
This is a great idea!! I really need to do this, so count me in!!

What a timely idea. I've added the Hubby Rocks gadget to my blog as well. Mine is a "second chance" marriage, after a long but ultimately, very poor first. No one is more aware than I of how blessed I am to have found my Mr Right! We have a wee saying about our marriage; divorce is not an option.
ReplyDeleteAli @ A Cosy Life
i got my tshirt!
ReplyDeleteMy husband rocks, too! http://servingsus.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteHe's an amazing man and I love how God brought us together. Even after nearly 8 years, he still showers me with love and acts like we are on our honeymoon!
I'm in!!! I think this is awesome. I too think my hubby rocks (he kisses me in the morning when I look my worst and acts like he doesn't even notice). I read the Power of a Praying Wife last year sometime and I am continually referencing back to it. It is an excellent book, I cry everytime I read the first chapter. Thanks for the opportunity to brag on my hubby.
ReplyDeleteI've just added your MHR button to my blog. Can't wait to join in the fun
ReplyDeleteI have so joined in!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am in! Following your blog and have your button up!!

Well,
ReplyDeleteI just found out about your post today via visiting another gals post. And since my post today just happens to be honoring my hubby, I will join up. thanks for doing this. It helps others to look for the positives in their man and not stay idling on the negatives when they need to move on. After 28 years of marriage, I KNOW, Life just goes by tooooo fast to "not get over it, whatever IT is". So, I say, always dwell on the man you KNOW your husband can become and will become... if you are the joy of his life!!!
What can you do to delight him? and How can you show him honor? :-) Here's my link. Thanks again. "Love 'em by respectin' em." http://faithgraceandjoy.blogspot.com/2010/03/da-man.html
I love this and did my first post today! Hope to be joining in weekly. Such a wonderful way to honor our husbands!
