~ My Husband Rocks! ~ real

Click here to read about why I started MHR Fridays!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Austin is so awesome! :) I think I'll keep him forever and always! One of the things that I love the most about Austin is that he is 100% genuinely himself all the time. He does not change who he is depending up on the situation or the group of people he is with. He just is who he is, and he doesn't pretend to be anything that he is not.
(I just felt like wedding pics today :)
This brings up a very important issue for all of us. I fear I have misled some of you, and for that I am truly sorry. My intent for ~ My Husband Rocks! ~ Fridays was never to give anyone the impression that we need to pretend like everything is okay when it is not, or portray a false image of our marriages in order to have a great "MHR post." I completely understand and appreciate that we are all going to have weeks when it is hard to remember something about our husbands that makes them so amazing. This does not mean that we love them any less than we do on the weeks when our lists are overflowing from the computer screens. It just means that they are human, and so are we. MHRF is there to encourage us to choose to focus on the things we love and appreciate about our husbands instead of dwelling upon those aspects of their personalities that make us want to scream. I believe that when we do that, it will lead to harmony in our homes because what we choose to think about and focus upon has the most tremendous impact on our attitudes.
I am not sure that any of that made much sense after it came out of my brain, but it has been bugging me for the last few days, and I wanted to be sure that I cleared it up.
Anyway, back to my rocking awesome husband! :)
It has been pretty cold here this week, so every morning as part of his routine Austin makes sure to go out and turn my car on so it has time to warm up. I did not ask him or expect him to do this, he just did it.
He has also been very tolerant of my projects. I am the kind of person who always has way too many things going on at one time. I know this. I am admitting that I have a problem. Recently it has gotten very crazy. In addition to all of my real responsibilities with the house and food and hubby and dog, I am in the middle of reading at lest three books, writing mine, getting ready for the holidays, and this week I decided that I should make a quilt. Oh, and I think I have a half-crocheted baby blanket somewhere, too. My poor born-organized hubby cannot understand this compulsion, but he has been such a sweetheart this week. I know that having the quilting pieces laying out in the family room is not his desired decorating style (and I do tidy up when I am not working on it) but he has not complained about it at all, and he has even been very encouraging about catching up with my NaNoWriMo novel (I'm about 5,000 words behind at this point, and he is very good at reminding me that that project actually has a deadline).
So, suffice it to say, my husband totally rocks!
  2. I think MHRF is a great thing; I totally understand the point behind it. We are two imperfect people, living in an imperfect world, with an imperfect marriage. BUT we should learn to focus on the positive; it might be the smallest thing.......but it can make a world of difference. I think it's great that "you get it!"
    I am thrilled to participate, but I am far from having a perfect marriage. BUT the goal is to make it to the top, and you cannot do that by thinking negatively.
    Good JOB!
  3. I have learned that focusing on the positives - no matter how hard your day/week/month has been - helps keep your marriage healthy. It's the natural blocker to resentment, bitterness, and any other nasty thing you can be feeling... and reminds you of why you married that awesome guy to begin with!
    My husband rocks too!
  5. Great post! I have a suggestion though for MHR Fridays which might make it a bit easier for those struggling to write, as some of us are not born writers! Could there be a question to answer every week, perhaps asked by you, Kati, or suggested by one of your blog readers?
    I always know in my heart why I love my husband and I'm sure a lot of others feel the same way, but just don't know how to express it in writing. Maybe this will help those people out! Just a thought!
    Thanks again for another MHR week! I posted on my blog.
  10. I totally get what MHR is all about--accentuating the positive! Even if it's just a little weekly reminder, it's a good thing. I'm going to do my post now.
  13. First of all - the stuff from your brain was very well put! Sometimes I sit at my computer and think, think, think! ...and it can take a while to think of a good thing about my husband, but takes no time at all to think of everything he did or didn't do....but it HELPS SO MUCH to focus on the positive! Somehow, just that one thing, no matter how small, makes all the other things not seem as bad.
    Second - I agree with Jodi - it'd be nice to have a question to go with MHR for those days/weeks when we're just having writers' block (or our hubbies have been digging deep with their shovels!) ...something simple like "What is the nicest thing your hubby has done for you?" or "Name 3 reasons why your hubby makes you smile"
    Thanks for another week of MHR and for being here every week with it!!!
  14. Hi Katy Lin!
    I am a lot like you... I have several things going on at the same time, I am trying to read 3 books too... and WHEN??? I don't have any time!!
    GREAT post:) I LOVE MHRF and I know there are some weeks I don't have something wonderful to post about, or maybe I won't be in a lovey mood to want to post... so I sit and think of reasons my hubby rocks, and you know what? I start to feel more lovey all over again:) So, your "MHRF" posts are AWESOME!!
  15. I totally agree with you. No one has a perfect marriage because we live in a fallen world, but it's good to have the encouragement to look at the positive things in each other and to appreciate the good. The world does not do that with all of the biting sarcasm and thinly veiled digs at others. Thanks for encouraging us all to take time to appreciate our husbands. Even though you've only been married for a little over a year, you got it right away that this was really important. Some people don't ever figure that out.
  16. Well, I'm glad your husband rocks because mine is totally in the doghouse as of thisveryminute! LOL
    I love your pix and your reasons for loving your man!
    Now...gotta get back to breathing. Inhale. Exhale. Let it go.
  18. I think you're trying to remind us of God's command of gratitude and thankfulness. When we think positive and are able to find thanks in even the little things in life we are also able to see the bigger picture more clearly.
  20. I just wrote a post that doesn't entirely focus on my husband, but talks a lot about how wonderful he is. Since I wrote it on a Friday, I thought I might as well join my first My Husband Rocks Friday. I've known about the tradition for a while, and I've thought that it's a great sentiment, but since I usually blog on a specific non-husband topic, it's never really come up before.
  21. I find myself sometimes cataloging all the things my husband has done wrong, but I am much more happy and thankful when I am listing all the things he has done right. And I know I appreciate him for seeing the good in me!
  22. Great post Katy Lin! I'm glad you touched on that - it's so important!
